Everything about Santorini
Santorini has a wide and sophisticated market, offering to the visitors a variety of shops and goods at a moderate price and very high quality. The capital of the island, Fira, has the main shopping center. Also, the nearby Oia and Kamari have a wide range of shops everything a visitor might need. Most of the shops in the island tend to stay open Monday through Sunday, until late at night in summer.
As you walk and wander along the narrow streets of Fira you will notice the stores with your favorite fashion brands (clothes, shoes and accessories), high quality leather goods, beautiful art galleries, numerous jewelers, shops with souvenirs and handicrafts as woven goods, embroidery and traditional local products. Basically anything that a tourist might want or need to take back home.
In Fira, on the Ypapanti street commonly known as Gold Street you will find many jewelers offering a diversity (in gold or silver) of jewelry pieces in modern as well as ancient designs from both Greek and foreign designers.
Art galleries house works of original art by Greek artists, ceramics and handicrafts. Oia has many art shops, textiles from the traditional weaving mill and a fine selection of ceramics to be purchased.
Santorini is known for its local wine production (V.Q.P.R.D.), split peas and capers. Famous is the sun-dried wine Vinsanto, with the golden-orange to dark amber coloring and the distinctive aroma and Assyrtiko with its characteristic acidity and the metallic taste in the mouth.
Of course, every shop, in every part of the island, sells souvenirs, which will remind you of your visit to this beautiful island.
