About Santorini beaches

Much are to be said about Santorini's land origin. The volcanic explosions of the past eras have created lots of beaches with different feel and environment. The most crowded one but also well organized is Perissa, located at the southeastern part of the island. A long seashore of about 7 km with deep blue water and covered with magnificent black sand. It is the place to be when the party begins during the day at the several beach-bars built right on the beach. Many taverns and restaurants offer local and international cuisine and the place is also right for sea sports and scuba diving.

Moving on north a bit from Perissa, we will find the Kamari beach which is also quite crowded but very well organized. The beach, together with the village, are located just near the island's airport and have a magnificent view of the "Meso Vouno" of Ancient Thira at the southern side of the beach, where the famous Ancient Theatre is also located. Alongside both Kamari and Perissa beach you may find a rather large amount of hotels, bed & breakfast rooms to let and the Perissa camping where you wake up right in front of its long beach with the black sand.

At the southwestern side of Santorini, there's the beach of Vlychada, ideal for the ones who enjoy isolation, as much as this can be achieved on the particular island, and a bit of silence, compared to the rest of the beaches available. In Vlychada, the landscape is rather lunar and filled with volcanic rocks on the beach and right above it. Choose this beach for relaxing with your soulmate and if you can endure as long as you can with only a few canteens. Local fresh fish is the menu of the day at the 3-4 small taverns available there.

The Perivolos beach is the long seaside connecting Perissa and Agios Georgios and it is located at the southern side of the island. Black sand as well, beautiful people partying night and day at the series of beach bars and traditional taverns.

By boat or by motorbike or car, together with some interesting minutes of walking (climbing actually), you may reach the Red beach, right next to the Akrotiri ancient territory. This one is very famous for its red, black and white stones that are what this beach is made of. A very peculiar volcanic landscape with the red mountain rising right behind the Red beach. These really deep blue waters and the unique landscape can be found at the southwestern side of the island and are meant to be quite with only a few canteens serving the tourists there. Very close to the Red beach there's also the White beach (Aspri paralia) with, as its name dictates, only white rocks and stones but may be visited only by boat.

Agios Georgios beach, located at the southern part of the island, is a quite beach of black sand which continues from where the Perivolos beach ends and ends at Vlichada. Some taverns but no umbrellas or sunbeds can be found here.

At the northern part of Santorini, there are some beaches where normally the tourists staying at Oia, Fira or Imerovigli do visit. These are the Ammoudi beach and the Armeni beach. At the center of the island, there are also a few more beaches, these of Vourvoulos, Monolithos and Baxedes.

Quite a few options of beaches for all preferences can be found on Santorini. It is a fact that they won't let you down as you will have the chance to acquaint with unique landscapes.
